This PhD will advance our knowledge of how to build trustworthy digital platforms for human-centric AI systems based on NLP and ML for machine understanding of digital content so that they are more likely to be successfully integrated into an organisation and have impact. It will explore the gap between Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (TAI) guidelines and what is needed in practice to build trust in a deployed, AI-based system so that it is effective. It will create new methods, measurement tools and metrics for trust in data produced by AI systems and the systems themselves. It is an interdisciplinary topic drawing on both the Computer Science and Psychology disciplines. This PhD will partner with a National healthcare data analytics platform deployment to explore and define the factors required to assure trust in the system when AI (NLP, ML) components are deployed.
